# How to translate the progress bar texts for each language and market

> Each text of Yaco Progress Bar is translated from its own field, per language or per language and market. Texts left untranslated fall back to the main text.

## Translate a text from its own field

Every translatable text has a translate icon: at the end of the field for a simple field, or at the end of the toolbar (right after the `</>` button) for a rich-text editor. Clicking it opens a menu with two choices:

- **Translate across markets**: pick a language. The translation is used in that language in every market.
- **Adapt a market**: pick a market, then one of its languages. The text is used only for that language in that market, for example French for Canada.

Type the translation in the window that opens. Once a text has translations, a counter such as **2 translations** appears at the end of the field label. Click it to see every translation, edit it or delete it with **Remove this translation**.

The menu lists the languages added to your store in Shopify. A language missing from the list must first be added in Shopify's language settings.

## Which texts are translated this way

In the tier card on **Goals & Discounts**:

- the tier name (**Goal name**);
- the tier text shown while the tier is ahead (**Goal's text template**);
- the discount title;
- the **Login button** label;
- the texts of the gift button and of the gift chooser for that tier (see [gift chooser](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/gift-chooser)).

Elsewhere:

- the quantity labels of a bar, in its **Quantity labels** or **Order count labels** card (singular, plural, remaining quantity), see [bars](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/bars);
- the **Button label** of the gift button at checkout, on the **Checkout** page (see [checkout](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/checkout));
- the title and add-to-cart label of a recommendation block, in its **Content** tab (see [recommendations](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/recommendations)).

A field left empty in a language falls back to the main text.

## Texts translated with Translate & Adapt

A few texts are translated in Shopify's **Translate & Adapt** app rather than in Yaco Progress Bar:

- the success message: the **Success message** tab of the **Design** page links to it (see [success message](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/success-message));
- the default texts of the gift chooser and the “Choose a gift” button, set in **Online Store › Customize › App embeds › Yaco Progress Bar**.

## Texts you do not need to translate

- In checkout, the “FREE”, “Add” and “Remove” wordings and the messages shown in the gift list follow the shopper's checkout language automatically. They cannot be edited.
- In a recommendation block, a title or button label you never changed is shown in the shopper's language from built-in translations. Once you write your own title, it is shown as written in every language, until you translate it.

## Language versus market

Use **Translate across markets** in most cases. Use **Adapt a market** when one market needs different wording in the same language, for example British and American English. To change a tier's threshold per market, see [markets](https://www.yaco.studio/docs/markets).

Translations are saved with the page: click **Save**, or **Publish** on the **Checkout** page.
