How to add a free shipping bar to your Shopify cart

How free shipping works with Yaco

Yaco Progress Bar shows the goal, and Shopify grants the free shipping. The free shipping tier is a Text goal: it displays progress such as $12 left for free shipping, then a success message, but it creates no discount and never changes your shipping rates.

The free shipping itself comes from one of two places in Shopify:

• a free shipping rate: in Settings › Shipping and delivery, a rate at 0 with a minimum order price, in the relevant shipping zones;
• a free shipping discount: in Discounts, an automatic free shipping discount with a minimum purchase amount.

If neither exists, the bar promises free shipping that the checkout does not apply.

Set up the free shipping tier

1. Set up free shipping in Shopify first (rate or discount), and note its minimum amount.
2. In the app, open Goals & Discounts, tab Goals, and click Add a goal.
3. Keep the type Text goal (Message only, no discount).
4. Name it, for example "Free shipping", and adjust the Goal's text template, for example {amount} left for {name}.
5. Set the threshold to exactly the minimum amount of your Shopify rate or discount.
6. Click Save.

If a free shipping offer already existed when you installed the app, the tier was probably created for you with its threshold. Check it in the Goals tab. See add a tier for the other tier settings.

Keep the thresholds aligned

The bar and Shopify do not share their threshold: you set it in both places. If your shipping rate is free from $50 but the tier says $60, customers see a promise that does not match the checkout. Each time you change your free shipping amount in Shopify, update the tier too, then save.

The same applies to countries:

• If the free shipping amount differs by country, set a threshold per market or country with + Adapt a market. See markets.
• If you do not offer free shipping in some markets, use Disable goal for this market there, so the bar does not promise it.

Rate or discount: which to choose

Both work with the bar. The difference shows at checkout, when other discounts are involved:

• A shipping rate at 0 is not a discount, so it never conflicts with any discount, including Yaco discount tiers and free gifts.
• A shipping discount follows Shopify's combination rules. Two shipping discounts never combine. It can also block a Yaco gift or discount tier, or be blocked by it, if their combination settings do not allow it.

If you use a shipping discount together with Yaco reward tiers, check both sides. On the Yaco tier, the delivery icon of the discount must read Combines with shipping discounts. Click to disable when you hover it. On your Shopify shipping discount, the combination with the Yaco tier's discount type (product or order) must be ticked too. Combination is only accepted when both discounts allow it. If a discount still does not apply, see discount not applied.

Messages and next tiers

When the threshold is reached, the bar shows the tier's success message. You can hide it once a higher tier is reached with Then hide the success message, so the bar focuses on the next reward. See success message.

Free shipping is often the first tier, followed by a free gift or a discount tier at a higher amount.
