Why does the progress bar show the wrong cart amount?
The bar counts only what its settings include: excluded products, gift cards, discounts, currency and bundles all change the total. Check them in this order.
Some items are not counted
Each bar counts a chosen set of items. Open Goals & Discounts › Bars, open the bar, and check the What is counted card:
- Cart item filtering: products or collections included or excluded;
- Exclude gift cards;
- Purchase type: one-time purchases, subscriptions, or both.
An item left out here does not move the bar and does not count towards the tier discount either. See bars.
Discounts are already taken off
By default (After product discount), the bar counts the subtotal after product discounts, exactly as Shopify does at checkout. A cart of $100 with a 20% product discount therefore counts $80.
To count original prices, open the tier card, click the threshold amount in the tier's sentence and choose Before all discounts in the menu under it, then Save. The checkout follows the same setting. See discount tier.
The shopper pays in another currency
Thresholds are set in your store currency. For shoppers in other markets, you have two options in the tier:
- Automatically convert goal value to market's currency, with an option to round up converted values;
- a threshold of their own for a market or a country, with + Adapt a market.
If a tier is reached too early or too late in some countries, check the market exceptions of that tier. A market threshold set a long time ago may not record its currency yet: open the app and click Save to update it. See markets.
A bundle counts as one item
Shopify shows a bundle as a single cart line. On a bar measuring Quantity, Count items inside bundles (on by default) counts the items inside native Shopify bundles: a pack of 6 counts 6. When it is off, the bar list shows the badge Bundles counted as 1 item.
Limits to know:
- bundles built by third-party apps that are not native Shopify bundles still count as 1;
- for percentage or amount-off tiers based on quantity, the checkout discount cannot look inside bundles, a Shopify limit. Only the bar and the free gifts count the items inside.
The bar includes past purchases
Two measures do not look at the cart alone:
- Customer purchase history adds up everything the customer has already spent, plus the current cart;
- Customer's past orders counts orders already placed, and ignores the current cart.
A returning customer can therefore see a tier already reached as soon as the cart opens. These bars are also hidden from visitors who are not logged in. To measure the cart, set the bar's Measure to Cart amount.
A multiplier is applied
If our support team has set Apply multiplier on cart amount on your bar (in Advanced (support)), the counted amount is multiplied by that value: with 0.8, a $100 cart counts $80.
Several tiers, one reward
On a bar with several percentage or amount-off tiers, only the highest tier reached applies. The amounts off never add up.
